This introductory course is for those new to desktop publishing, or who are switching from other layout programs to InDesign. In this 3-day hands-on course you’ll learn basic layout, text and graphics manipulation, typography rules, drawing tools (bezier curves), color creation and application, style sheets, master pages, multiple pages, baseline grid, hyphenation, libraries, indexing, and much more.
Topics covered include:
- Navigating InDesign’s desktop and your document
- Managing and working with Palettes
- Setting up and creating custom documents in InDesign
- Creating and using InDesign Master pages
- Using footers and automatic page numbering
- Adding, deleting, and reordering pages
- Inserting special characters and white space
- Utilize kerning, tracking, and baseline shift
- Alter fonts with vertical and horizontal scale for creative effects
- Auto flowing text in InDesign
- Using Paragraph and Character Styles
- Thread and unthread text frames
- Creating and working with tables
- Combining multiple documents into a Book
- Creating a Table of Contents and Index
- Using layers in InDesign
- Importing and linking graphics
- Using Photoshop files with InDesign
- Scale and rotate graphics
- Wrapping text around graphics
- Draw basic shapes, lines, arrows and polygons in InDesign
- Use Ruler guides for exact placement of items on a page
